Description

Memorial window dedicated to Col. Alexander J. Lawton (1790-1876). A colonel of the South Carolina Militia, deputy surveyor of Beaufort District, Post Master of Roberstville, justice of the Peace, appraiser of estates, executor of wills, trustee of estates, and treasurer of Blackswamp Baptist Church. Served on Furman's Board of Trustees 1852-1860. Top panel features mechanical gears; bottom panel has inscription, Col. Alex R. J. Lawton. 'One of the Generous Founders of the University and a life long supporter.' Placement in Judson Alumni Building, assembly room left.
